Puliyilakkara
I also learned what puliyilakkara means.
I think the day I wrote about onam memories and the attire of malayalee women of mundum neryathum I was walking from the kitchen to the living room and the word puliyilakkara came into my head.
Snippets of songs, old malayalam songs where the word puliyilakkara is used to describe the outfit of the girl came to my mind.
I searched and found one song with this word.
I am sure there are many other songs with this word.
But I did not know what it means.
I searched and found what it means.
It means like a tamarind leaf.
I also got images of puliyilakkara settum mundum.
It is a very thin line at the edge of the mundu.
It is considered high end and refined and elegant in old world women's clothing.
So I expanded my general knowledge base.
Even in ancient times mallus had a refined taste.
Mallus did not start liking refined due to influence from other regions of the world.
Or due to exposure to other tastes.
But naturally they liked the refined and understated as is evidenced by them pricing this very simple nondescript pattern of a thin line as something great.
At least I understood something about the psyche of my forefathers which I was all but about to give up due to influence.
