Coconuts

Yesterday I got a very nice YouTube channel. It had a 9 or 10 year old kid trying out different foods. She tries out foods from different parts of the world. I was searching for how to make five star candy bar when I reached her channel. Five star candy bar is a candy bar that was there in India during my childhood. I used to like it a lot. Yesterday I remembered it and searched for a recipe to make this at home. That is when I stumbled upon this kid's channel where she reviews foods from different parts of the world. She had a video of reviewing five star candy bar. She did such a good job in that video. She just described the candy bar and said if she liked it or not. I think she compared it to Mars candy bar in the US. I don't know if Mars candy bar is similar. She had a video of trying out coconut water. And the inside of the coconut. In my childhood I liked coconut water a lot.. My mom would give me coconut water. In Kerala there is a thing called tender coconut water. It is the coconut that is harvested before it becomes ripe. Then the coconut shell is green and not brown. The shell is also easy to put a straw in through. You can put a straw directly into the coconut and drink the water inside. It is had in summers in India. I have had tender coconut water a lot as a child both from a glass and straight from the coconut. When I was pregnant with my older child someone told me if you drink tender coconut water your baby will be very fair. So every opportunity during my pregnancy I drank this. It is called karikkum vellam. Maybe because I watched the review of a coconut yesterday and because I grew up in the land of coconuts I feel like writing about coconut today. You can use coconut oil for cooking and for your hair. You can use coconut water to drink. The white insides of coconut is grated and used to make curries and also sweets such as coconut laddoo. You can also use coconut milk to make curries. I grew up in the land of coconut trees. The very name of Kerala is derived from coconut tree. Kera means coconut. In fifth grade my painting teacher taught us to paint a coconut tree. I still remember that. If you mix blue with yellow you get the green of the coconut palm leaves. Coconut palm leaves is used for making fences and roofs of poor peoples homes. Or sheds. Carpets can me made with coconut fibres. Carpets can be made with rope made of coconut fibre. Growing up in Kerala I was surrounded by exhibitions of innovative use of coconuts. There are many handicrafts that can be made with coconuts. There was an organisation called the coir board. They develop the coir industry which is based on coconuts. Today coconut is extensively used in the beauty industry. Because of the word nut in it it can be considered a nut like peanuts or walnuts but actually it is a fruit and specifically a "one seeded drupe" according to the internet.
