Kanchipuram sarees 2

The sarees shown above have temple border. A lot of kancheepuram sarees worn by brides have lots of gold threads woven through the entire saree and may be brocade kancheepuram.
In Kochi the city I grew up in there were several very nice shops where you can buy beautiful kanchipuram sarees. The entire wall is lined with saris in an array of colors. If we like a color we can tell the sales person and they will spread five yards of resplendent silk on the counter so you can look at the weave, the border, the pallu etc. They will show us as many as we like. I have been on innumerable shopping trips with my mother to the saree shops of kochi. They are air-conditioned shops. Sitting in the plush sofa in airconditioned comfort of a brightly lit room looking at kanchipuram sarees is a special memory of my childhood. If we are going in the evening or weekend my father accompanied us. My father would sit in another area near and read magazines. When we are ready to check out they place the saree sometimes in a thin cardboard box or just put it in a brown paper bag with the name of the shop printed on it. Then they put the brown paper bag in a plastic bag. We walk away with the purchase. After reaching home we open the package and take the saree out and look at it. After this we can stitch the blouse. Lots of kanchipuram sarees come with attached blouse piece. Then we can take it to the taylor and get it stitched. This was during my childhood. Now there is blouse stitching service in the shops itself.
Floral kanchipuram sarees are a new trend.
