It's Your World: Get Informed, Get Inspired, Get Going by Chelsea Clinton
Recently I read a book titled, It's Your World. Get Informed. Get Inspired. Get Going. It is written by Chelsea Clinton. It is a book meant for children that grown ups can also benefit from.
It is chock full of information about a variety of problems faced by the developing world, their causes, their consequences, possible solutions and how children can get involved in the solution process.
I particularly enjoyed reading about the link between poverty and education. Chelsea points out that "Education helps fight poverty in real ways." Citing information from United Nations Chelsea says "if every child in low income countries just learned to read--more than 170 million people would be better able to support themselves as adults and move out of poverty."
I also liked the fact that Chelsea patiently explains in the book each and every term that may be difficult for a child to understand. Thus, she describes the United Nations as "an organization that includes representatives from nearly every country in the world."
I grew up in the Indian state of kerala where historically illiteracy has been extremely low compared to the rest of India. This resulted in a high level of development for the people of kerala inspite of low per capita income proving the connection between education and high quality of life. In fact economists have touted the kerala model as an example for the rest of India.
I enjoyed reading Chelsea Clinton's book. If you have young children in your life I encourage you to read this book with them.
