Two Questions

Yesterday I participated in the Toastmasters club meeting and I asked two questions. The first question was about the Tax relief for American families and workers act of 2024. This bill was approved with bipartisan support in the house of representatives and will benefit families that have children and struggle financially. My question was do you think it is a step in the right direction. Why is the support for children important? The second question I asked was about the Israel Hamas war causing South Africa to blame Israel for genocide and my question was do you think they are right in accusing Israel of genicide. A great discussion followed and I learned a lot. However this morning I was more curious about these issues and looked up some details about these issues. Info about both questions is given below. Child credit tax 2024 is in the American Rescue plan of 2021. It provides the largest child tax credit ever and provides historic relief to the most working families ever. If you have a child under the age of six you are entitled to get $3600 for that child. The child tax credit will help all families succeed. If you have children between the ages of 6-17 you get $3000.00 per child. All working families will get the full credit if they make up to $150,000 for a couple or 112,500 for a family with a single parent. A segment of the American population does not earn enough income to require to pay taxes. Such people can still get benefits from the child tax credit act 2024. What percentage of the US population does not file taxes because they earn less? For the first time child tax will be received in monthly payments. This is part of president Biden s build back better plan. It will benefit the lower 40 percent of the US population. The following is the info about the Israel Hamas issue that I gathered this morning. South Africa and Israel are signatories to the genocide convention of 1948. They are obliged to prevent genocide and not commit genocide. The international court of justice is based in the Hague in Netherlands. It was set up in June 1945. It hears cases brought by countries who accuse other nations of violating UN treaty obligations. The genocide convention was drawn up in response to the atrocities committed against the Jewish people during the Holocaust. Now for the first time Israel is being tried under that which was created to protect Israel. South Africa accused Israel of committing genocide in Gaza by 1. Killing Palestinians. 2. Causing serious mental and bodily harm. 3. Forced Evacuation 4. Widespread Hunger 5. Creating conditions to bring about their destruction. 6. Failing to stem incitement of genocide in the public pronouncement of its officials. South Africa urged the international court of justice to suspend fighting in Gaza to protect Palestine from imminent and irreparable loss. Ahead of the hearings Israel accused South Africa for not accusing Palestinians. Hamas's founding charter mandates the killing of Jews and the destruction of Israel. South Africa explained that Hamas is not a state and cannot be party to the genocide convention. The organisation of Islamic cooperation a grouping of 57 countries have supported south Africa. Israel's allies have fought the allegation by south Africa. The UN defines genocide as an act committed in whole or in part with the intention to destroy a ethnic, racial, religious or national group. I found all this info in the internet.
