Today is World Environment Day

Today is World Environment Day. There are some words and phrases that are frequently used while talking of the environment. Today I searched the meaning of these words just to educate myself about the most pressing environmental concerns facing the globe. Here are some of the terms. All the info is from the internet.
Climate Change
Climate change describes global warming—the ongoing increase in global average temperature—and its effects on Earth's climate system.

Deforestation

Deforestation or forest clearance is the removal and destruction of a forest or stand of trees from land that is then converted to non-forest use.

Deforestation results in habitat destruction which in turn leads to biodiversity loss. Deforestation also leads to extinction of animals and plants, changes to the local climate, and displacement of indigenous people who live in forests.

Pollution

Pollution is the introduction of contaminants into the natural environment that cause adverse change. Pollution can take the form of any substance (solid, liquid, or gas) or energy (such as radioactivity, heat, sound, or light). Pollutants, the components of pollution, can be either foreign substances/energies or naturally occurring contaminants.

Green House Gas

Greenhouse gases (GHGs) are the gases in the atmosphere that raise the surface temperature of planets such as the Earth. What distinguishes them from other gases is that they absorb the wavelengths of radiation that a planet emits, resulting in the greenhouse effect.[1] The Earth is warmed by sunlight, causing its surface to radiate heat, which is then mostly absorbed by greenhouse gases. Without greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, the average temperature of Earth's surface would be about −18 °C (0 °F),[2] rather than the present average of 15 °C (59 °F). Greenhouse gases trap some of the heat that results when sunlight heats the earths surface. Three important greenhouse gases are carbon dioxide, water vapor and methane. Biodiversity (or biological diversity) is the variety and variability of life on Earth. It can be measured on various levels. There is for example genetic variability, species diversity, ecosystem diversity and phylogenetic diversity.

Just being aware will help us contribute our share in making this planet healthy. Since all this is copied and pasted from the internet the formatting is not great!
