Puran Poli

Today I made a stack of puran poli. I made it with flour, dhal, jaggery, water, oil and cardamom seeds. This sweet is made in several states of India and I believe is made with regional variations in each state. My mother used to make this for us while my father worked in the Indian State of Maharashtra. The south Indian version of this is called boli is thinner and is yellow. It was available in a restaurant in kochi and because I liked it my parents used to send it to me in the US. They also sent it to my brothers family.
This is not boli but puran poli.
I made this for my child in Chicago. I don't make this frequently but when I do make it my kids like it, I think, I hope.
